Why Platelets Drop Rapidly

Possible causes of rapid platelet drop include infections, drugs, blood system diseases, autoimmune diseases and other reasons, and judgment should be made based on relevant examinations.
1. Infection: Certain viruses, such as novel Bunyavirus infection, can cause platelet drop with rapid onset, which can be seen after tick bite. Other viruses such as respiratory syncytial virus, cytomegalovirus, rubella virus infections can also cause thrombocytopenia, but usually a mild decrease.
2. Drugs: chemotherapeutic drugs such as carboplatin can often cause thrombocytopenia, antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, sulfonamides and other drugs can also cause thrombocytopenia.
3. Blood system diseases: aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, leukemia, autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura can also cause rapid decline in platelets.
4. Autoimmune diseases: systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. can also lead to a rapid decline in platelets.
If platelets fall rapidly in a short period of time, you should consult hematology department in time to find out the cause of the disease and standardize the treatment under the guidance of physicians.
