How serious is a 10th rib fracture?

A simple fracture of the 10th rib is usually not very serious and is a relatively common surgical condition, with a single rib fracture being less serious than multiple multiple rib fractures. The ribs are located at the front of the body and serve to protect the internal organs of the body. Rib fractures can occur when the ribs are crushed or struck. When a rib fracture occurs, it usually results in more severe pain, sometimes accompanied by localized congestion, redness and swelling. If the fracture is not serious, the patient can be immobilized with a chest strap, avoid strenuous exercise, and use medications such as meloxicam and ibuprofen under the direction of a doctor. If the bone is displaced or the rib is completely broken, the patient can be treated by surgical repositioning. Patients should avoid exercising after a rib fracture and seek medical attention if they feel unwell.
