Determining whether an ankle ligament is strained or torn can be clarified by a physical examination as well as an MRI. The ankle ligaments function to restrict the ankle joint from excessive movement in a certain direction, and in the case of a strained ankle ligament there is no significant change in the range of motion of the ankle joint. However, there will be severe pain during movement. After ankle ligament rupture, the function of ankle joint restriction is lost, and the range of motion of the ankle joint will be abnormally increased in addition to severe pain during the examination. Ligament damage can be initially determined through physical examination, and to further clarify, ankle MRI can be done. Magnetic resonance imaging can clarify the specifics of ligament strain or rupture and provide a basis for the next step of treatment. After the ankle ligament injury, we should go to the hospital in time to improve the examination and receive regular treatment.
