A few leukocytes refers to the presence of a small number of white blood cells in the specimen being tested, and often indicates that there is a mild localized inflammation, or a chronic inflammatory condition, but not an acute inflammatory condition or a severe inflammatory condition. If a small number of leukocytes are found in a routine urine test, it means that there may be a mild infection in the urinary tract, or a chronic infection, such as chronic cystitis, chronic pyelonephritis, chronic urethritis, and so on, all of which may have a small number of leukocytes. In addition, if a small number of leukocytes are found in a stool examination, it indicates that a chronic gastrointestinal infection may be present, such as chronic enteritis, and so on. A small number of white blood cells indicates a mild or chronic localized inflammation, which is usually not serious, while a large number of white blood cells indicates an acute and serious infection.
