If pulp vitality is present, root canal treatment usually requires an anesthetic injection to effectively prevent pain during treatment.
Root canal treatment is one of the routine treatment modalities in the Department of Endodontics, which can be used to treat symptoms such as hot and cold pain, spontaneous pain, or biting pain in the teeth caused by endodontitis or apical periodontitis. The treatment process generally includes root canal cleaning, root canal disinfection and root canal filling.
Root canal treatment first requires cleaning of the pulp tissue in the root canal; however, since some of the pulp tissue is active during the cleaning process, local anesthesia (e.g., infiltration, block anesthesia) must be administered to the tooth using medication (e.g., lidocaine, ativan) to effectively avoid pulpal pain during the treatment process, so as to effectively clean the tooth.
