The program “The Road to Health” of CCTV once conducted an interview about dryness syndrome. Among 50 interviewers, more than 80% answered “don’t know” or “haven’t heard of it”. 2% answered that dry eyes is dryness. 1% answered that dry mouth and tongue is dryness. Another 3% answered that dry skin is dryness. For many years, people have been relatively unfamiliar with dry syndrome. In fact, the disease is not uncommon in clinical practice. American survey and research show that dry syndrome is a common rheumatic disease with an incidence rate second only to rheumatoid arthritis. The epidemiological survey results of Peking Union Medical College Hospital in 1993 also showed that the incidence rate of dry syndrome in the northern region of China was 0.33-0.77%. It indicates that the prevalence rate in China is not lower than that of rheumatoid arthritis. 90% of the patients are female, and the age of onset is mostly seen in 30-40 years old. Recently, it has been found that there is a trend of increasing incidence in young women. The incidence of the disease has been increasing in recent years.
