Can amoxicillin be used to treat periodontitis?

Periodontitis is treatable with amoxicillin. Periodontitis itself as a chronic inflammation formed by long-term deposition of supragingival plaque and subgingival plaque, and amoxicillin, as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, has a good inhibitory effect on bacteria. From this perspective, amoxicillin is symptomatic in the treatment of periodontitis. However, it must be stated that the clinical application of amoxicillin to treat periodontitis must first consult a professional physician at a professional dentistry department and undergo systematic periodontal treatment before considering the application of amoxicillin, because it is possible that the effect of pure application of amoxicillin for periodontitis itself is not ideal. The main cause of periodontitis is the presence of a large amount of plaque and calculus, which cannot be cleaned up simply by taking medication. The plaque and calculus must be completely removed by supragingival scaling, subgingival scaling, root planing, etc. In terms of the application of drugs, you can generally consider the application of broad-spectrum amoxicillin, combined with nitroimidazole metronidazole, together with anti-inflammatory, and can consider the application of some local application of antibiotics in the gums, especially in the gingival sulcus, the effect may be better.
