What to do if a three-year-old child has a broken clavicle

If a three-year-old child has a clavicle fracture, the following treatment measures can be taken: first, in the majority of these children, conservative treatment is preferred. First, conservative treatment is preferred for the majority of these children. For example, the child may be repositioned by manipulation, after which the shoulder may be immobilized with a figure-of-eight cast or clavicle immobilization band. Clinical healing may be achieved in about two weeks, at which time the external fixation device can be removed. Second, for very severe injuries, surgery may be required. For example, if the child has an open fracture, a comminuted fracture, or a pneumothorax and other complications, then the fracture site needs to be surgically incised and fixed, and the damaged structures need to be repaired. However, due to the rapid growth and development of the child, the internal fixation device should be removed as soon as possible after the fracture has healed.
