There is no optimal ratio of Panax ginseng to American ginseng to Salvia miltiorrhiza; it is generally used in accordance with the pharmacopoeia dosage, and should be administered as prescribed by a physician.
Panax ginseng can disperse blood stasis, stop bleeding, reduce swelling and settle pain (eliminate swelling and pain). It is used for hemoptysis, hematemesis, epistaxis, hematochezia, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling), traumatic bleeding, stabbing pain in the chest and abdomen, and swelling and pain in stumbling. The recommended dosage is 3~9g; powdered and swallowed is 1~3g. Pregnant women are advised to use this product with caution.
Radix Panax Ginseng can replenish qi and nourish yin, clearing heat and generating fluids. It is used in treating deficiency of qi and yin, deficiency of heat and fatigue, coughing, wheezing, phlegm and blood, internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied by excessive eating, drinking and urinating), dry mouth and throat. The dosage should be 3-6 g. It should not be used in combination with veratrum.
Salvia miltiorrhiza can invigorate blood circulation, dispel blood stasis, clear menstruation and relieve pain, clear the heart and remove vexation, cool blood and eliminate carbuncles (eliminating carbuncles and swellings by cooling the blood). It is used for chest paralysis (stuffy pain in the chest), heart pain, hypochondriac (stomach and abdomen) dystocia (pain in the area of coeruleus and ribs), accumulation of obstruction in the abdomen (visible or invisible lumps appearing in the abdomen, with a feeling of distension and pain), restlessness and insomnia, menstrual disorders, menstrual pain, dysmenorrhea and menstrual occlusion, and swelling and pain of sores, ulcers and ulcers. The dosage is 10-15g, and should not be used with veratrum.
