What to do about pain in the greater trochanter area

Part of the pain symptoms in the greater trochanter belongs to physiological factors, no special intervention is needed. Disease factors need to be dealt with in combination with the condition, common causes include trauma, synovitis, fracture, tumor lesions, ischemic necrosis of the femoral head, traumatic arthritis and so on, and the corresponding treatments include oral medication, closed treatment and surgical treatment, and so on.
1. Daily observation: pain caused by local muscle tension and lactic acid accumulation due to strenuous exercise, local pressure, wind, cold, etc. Most of them do not need special treatment.
2. Oral medication: local pain caused by trauma, especially severe symptoms, oral pain medication (ibuprofen, etc.) can be taken under the guidance of a physician; there are infectious lesions resulting in the need to apply anti-inflammatory drugs (cefixime, etc.).
3. Closure therapy: for recurrent pain caused by peripheral tendonitis and synovitis, closed injections (glucocorticoid, anesthetic drugs and saline mixture) can be used for control.
4. Surgery: internal fixation surgery can be chosen for intertrochanteric fracture of the femur; tumor lesions can be directly removed by surgery; ischemic necrosis of the femoral head and traumatic arthritis can be treated by joint replacement surgery.
If the pain in the area of the greater trochanter is severe and can’t be relieved, it is necessary to consult a doctor in time for observation and standardized treatment under the guidance of a clinician, and don’t use medicine blindly.
