Carmeglumine is a long-acting dopamine receptor agonist with high affinity for D2 receptors and low affinity for D1 receptors, α1, α2, and adrenoceptors. In vitro experiments have shown that this drug has a direct inhibitory effect on the secretion of prolactin in rat pituitary lactation cells, so it is mainly used clinically for the treatment of idiopathic or pituitary adenomas resulting in hyperprolactinemia. There is no uniform standard for the usage of this drug in China, and the specific usage and dosage can be carried out according to the doctor’s instructions. In addition, allergy to ergot derivatives, patients with uncontrolled hypertension, patients with heart valve disease, as well as patients with pulmonary, pericardial and retroperitoneal fibrosis, are contraindications to this drug.
