Congenital hypothyroidism in newborns is mainly treated with levothyroxine sodium tablets.
Once the diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism is confirmed, levothyroxine sodium tablets should be taken under doctor’s guidance for replacement therapy, after which the baby’s thyroid function needs to be followed up dynamically and thyroid function should be rechecked regularly to ensure that the thyroid function is at a normal level.
Neonatal congenital hypothyroidism is prone to cause intellectual disability, physical developmental disorders, etc. It can be detected through genetic metabolism screening at an early stage, and the prognosis is generally good after early detection and standardized treatment; however, if it is not detected or standardized treatment is not carried out, it may be left with lifelong sequelae.
When newborns with congenital hypothyroidism appear, they should go to the neonatology department or endocrinology department of the hospital in time, and be treated under the guidance of doctors.
