What’s wrong with the constant urge to cough?

The constant urge to cough occurs because of the persistence of the causes of coughing, such as the occurrence of respiratory infections, where the inflammatory sites secrete large amounts of inflammatory exudates that can irritate the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, thus producing a cough. Therefore, it is always tempting to cough. The cough can be relieved only after anti-inflammatory treatment is carried out and the inflammation dissipates. At this time, depending on the type of infection, you can choose the appropriate antibiotics and antiviral drugs for treatment. For example, if you smell irritating gases that cause coughing, the coughing phenomenon can be relieved only when you get rid of the irritating gases. This is because irritating gases cause spasm of the bronchial smooth muscle, which causes contraction of the bronchial tubes and, therefore, the symptom of a constant urge to cough. In the case of cough variant asthma, there is airway hyperresponsiveness and many factors can cause spasm of the bronchial smooth muscle, so there is always constriction of the bronchial tubes and a coughing urge.
