Organic gynecologic diseases, which usually require surgery, are particularly varied in scope and type, and the surgical approach to the same disease varies somewhat with the size of the mass. For example, a vestibular cyst or vestibular abscess will often require a vestibulostomy, which may also require the placement of drainage strips to avoid recurrence. If a woman’s ultrasound examination reveals multiple fibroids in the uterus, and the largest fibroid has exceeded 5cm, she will also need to undergo surgery to remove the fibroids, which can be either minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery or elective open surgery, or, for women who no longer have childbearing requirements, and are over the age of 45 years old, a total hysterectomy can also be considered. If a woman has an ovarian cyst with a diameter of 5cm or more or a malignant junctional mass of the ovary, she will need to undergo surgery.
