Changes in the shape of the face after deep overlay (malocclusion) correction

Deep overbite refers to a deep vertical occlusion of the front teeth, usually accompanied by a short lower 1/3 of the face, protruding anterior teeth, a gummy smile, and a pronounced chin-lip groove. Corrective methods for deep overbite (malocclusion) include depressing the front teeth, elevating the back teeth, and designing different tooth movements according to the purpose of correction: 1. Patients with deep overbite (malocclusion) accompanied by the lower 1/3 of the face being too short can increase the height of the lower 1/3 of the face by opening up the occlusion of the front teeth and rotating the lower jaw clockwise, so as to improve the face; 2. Patients with deep overbite (malocclusion) accompanied by the overbearing of the front teeth can improve their side view by opening up the occlusion, and inwardly retracting the overbearing front teeth. Deep overjet with overprojected front teeth can be improved by opening the occlusion and retracting the overprojected front teeth to improve the facial shape; 3. Deep overjet with overgummed smile can be improved by opening the occlusion and depressing the upper front teeth to improve the overgummed smile; 4. Deep overjet with overdeep chin-lip groove can be improved by rotating the lower jaw clockwise to improve the deep overjet and overdeep chin-lip groove.
