Meniere’s disease can be distinguished from otolithiasis by its causes, treatments and symptoms. 1. Causes:Meniere’s disease is caused by the obstruction of lymphatic return in the ear, resulting in the accumulation of water in the labyrinth of the inner eardrum; otoliths are mostly caused by the deterioration of otoliths’ function and decrease of their stability. 2. Treatment: Meniere’s disease is mainly treated with medication and surgery, commonly used drugs such as vestibular inhibitors, anticholinergics, vasodilators, and dehydrating agents; otoliths are often treated with repositioning. 3. Symptoms: In Meniere’s disease, vertigo lasts for a long time, accompanied by hearing loss, tinnitus, ear swelling and other symptoms; in otolithiasis, vertigo usually lasts for less than 1 minute and is not accompanied by hearing loss, tinnitus, ear swelling and other symptoms. If you have symptoms of vertigo, it is recommended that you actively seek medical attention and have a systematic examination by a specialist for a clear diagnosis.
