The efficacy of Forsythia is to lower qi, eliminate phlegm, move water and stop vomiting; it has the effect of treating wind-cold cough, phlegm and drink (the pathological products formed by the impaired metabolism of water and liquid) accumulation, chest and diaphragm plagued, wheezing and coughing, coughing and sputum, vomiting and wheezing, and the plagued hardness of the heart, etc.; it is cautioned against use in those who have a deficiency of yin and labor, or a dry cough of the lungs.
