Is immunoglobulin good for dermatomyositis?

Patients with dermatomyositis may be given an immunoglobulin infusion. However, there is no clear statement about whether the infusion of immunoglobulin can treat dermatomyositis. The application of immunoglobulin in patients with dermatomyositis is very helpful for the recovery of the disease. Generally, when the condition of patients with dermatomyositis is more serious, for example, when there is progressive aggravation of muscle weakness, accompanied by obvious dysphagia, dyspnea or, heart failure, etc., and the effect of routine application of glucocorticosteroids as well as immunosuppressant treatment is not good, then the application of immunoglobulin shock treatment is considered. For patients with dermatomyositis, infusion of immunoglobulin is not a commonly used treatment, glucocorticosteroids are the first choice for the treatment of dermatomyositis, followed by immunosuppressive agents such as methotrexate, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide and so on. Note that the above drugs must be used in accordance with medical advice. It is recommended that patients with dermatomyositis should consult the Rheumatology and Immunology Department in a timely manner, under the guidance of the doctor for standardized treatment and regular follow-up.
