There are no typical signs of rickets in the early stages, but children may experience excessive sweating, irritability, restless sleep at night and frequent waking. When not treated promptly in the early stages, typical skeletal changes gradually appear as the condition worsens, in addition to the initial atypical changes such as neuropsychiatric changes. Examples include skeletal changes such as cranial softening, square skull, chicken chest, X- or O-leggedness.
