Can IUI be done if the woman’s body does not ovulate normally?

There are many methods of pregnancy assistance, such as ovulation monitoring – guided intercourse, artificial insemination, IVF, etc. Each method of pregnancy assistance is suitable for different people. Recently, someone asked our science team this question: Can artificial insemination be performed on a woman whose body is not ovulating normally? To answer this question, we need to look at the principle of artificial insemination and what are the main problems it solves. According to the different insemination sites, IUI is divided into intravaginal IUI, intracervical IUI, intrauterine IUI and intrafallopian IUI. Currently, most fertility centers use intrauterine insemination. The basic principle is that the male partner’s sperm is washed (optimized) during the female partner’s ovulation, and then the washed sperm is injected into the uterine cavity. It is a form of pregnancy assistance mainly for men with low spermatozoa. In this procedure, although the sperm is washed and injected directly into the uterine cavity, for successful fertilization, the sperm needs to pass through the patent fallopian tube and encounter the egg discharged from the ovary. The condition of the fallopian tubes can be known by a tubal imaging, while follicle monitoring under ultrasound can tell the exact timing of ovulation. If the woman’s body does not ovulate normally, is it true that IUI cannot be done? Actually, not necessarily. There are many questions that do not have a blanket answer. There are several kinds of abnormal ovulation: if the ovulation is not normal, the doctor will often give ovulation injections to help the follicles expel according to the hormone level in the woman’s body; if the follicles are not developing, you can also take the appropriate injection orally or under the doctor’s guidance to encourage the follicles to develop; if the follicular phase is prolonged or shortened, simply by monitoring under ultrasound, you will be able to accurately monitor the ovulation phase. All of the above cases of abnormal ovulation can be solved under the guidance of a doctor, so abnormal ovulation in general is possible with IUI under the guidance of a doctor. However, it should be noted that if the female partner is simply ovulating abnormally and the male partner’s sperm vitality is normal, it is actually possible to help conceive through the relatively simple method of ovulation monitoring – guided intercourse. Of course, there are also some ovulation abnormalities that cannot be solved by ovulation monitoring and ovulation promotion medication, and some people still have difficulty ovulating after ovulation injections. In conclusion, specific problems need to be analyzed, and there are many different kinds of ovulation abnormalities, and the best strategy to help the male partner to conceive should be given under the guidance of the doctor.
