Acute epiglottitis has a rapid onset of illness and comes on dangerously, usually within 6 to 12 hours of respiratory distress, can cause laryngeal obstruction and asphyxiation death. Acute epiglottitis is one of the common critical illnesses in ENT and can be life-threatening. It is an acute inflammatory lesion involving the epiglottis and surrounding tissues in the supraglottic region of the larynx, which can occur in both children and adults. The main manifestations are headache, fever and chills, severe and progressive sore throat, dysphagia and dyspnea with inspiratory laryngeal ringing within 6 to 12 hours, and asphyxia within a few hours in severe cases. When acute epiglottitis is suspected, the patient should be sent to the hospital by dialing the emergency number in time, and the corresponding rescue measures should be completed under the guidance of the doctor.
