A goiter is usually an increase in the size and shape of the thyroid gland. An increase in thyroid volume usually refers to a simple enlargement of the thyroid gland without the development of nodules. In contrast, goiter is a pathologic response resulting from compensatory thyroid hyperplasia in response to pathogenic factors. The increase in thyroid volume is usually physiologic, such as pregnant women and adolescents, due to the increased demand for thyroid hormones, physiologic hyperplasia of the thyroid gland, the phenomenon of increased thyroid volume. This condition does not require special treatment, and after a period of time, the increase in the size of the thyroid gland will gradually subside. Enlarged thyroid gland is often stimulated by pathogenic factors, the thyroid cells or interstitial tissue hyperplasia, patients are often accompanied by an increase in the secretion of thyroid hormones, such as emotional excitement, panic attacks, trembling hands and so on. If a goiter is detected and you cannot tell whether it is simply an increase in size or a thyroid nodule or goiter, it is recommended that you seek medical attention in a timely manner and under the guidance of your doctor to conduct a comprehensive and systematic examination before proceeding with targeted treatment.
