What is adenomyoma? Is it serious?

Uterine adenomyoma belongs to one kind of endometriosis, which is a benign lesion, and the situation is relatively not particularly serious, especially for those who do not have serious clinical symptoms and do not need special treatment, while for those who have symptoms such as increased menstrual flow, anemia, progressive dysmenorrhea and so on, drug or surgical treatment is recommended.

Adenomyoma is a benign lesion caused by limited invasion of the endometrium into the myometrium, which usually mostly causes fibrous reactive hyperplasia around the endometrium, and may be caused by multiple pregnancies, abortion, chronic endometritis, and so on.

After suffering from uterine adenomyoma, if the patient has no obvious symptoms and the fibroid is relatively small, clinical observation can be carried out first and no special treatment is needed.

If the adenomyoma is large or accompanied by symptoms such as increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, progressive dysmenorrhea, etc., it is recommended to choose drugs that inhibit the secretion of estrogen as well as reduce the sensitivity of estrogen for treatment, in order to inhibit the growth of adenomyoma.

If the effect is not obvious after drug treatment, surgery can be used to remove the local lesions, and hysterectomy can also be considered in serious cases.

Therefore, for patients with adenomyoma, although the situation is relatively not too serious, it is recommended to choose the appropriate treatment plan according to the patient’s specific situation after the doctor’s consultation.
