Pregnant women with twins are most at risk during the first trimester and after the seventh month of pregnancy.
In the first trimester, pregnant women with twin pregnancies usually have more severe early pregnancy reactions such as nausea and vomiting, are more prone to anemia and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and are more prone to pregnancy complications such as miscarriage and preterm labor; the fetus is more prone to fetal malformations, fetal growth restriction, and twin-fetal transfusion syndrome, and so on.
In addition, after the seventh month of pregnancy, compared with ordinary pregnant women, twin pregnant women have a higher chance of premature rupture of membranes, placental abruption and other complications. After labor, contraction weakness, umbilical cord abnormality, fetal head locking and other difficult labor situations are more likely to occur.
Therefore, it is recommended that pregnant women with twin pregnancies should undergo obstetric checkups on a regular basis and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized diagnosis and treatment.
