What’s wrong with a welder who can’t see out of his eyes?

Welders can’t see their eyes, so they should consider electro-optical ophthalmia, macular degeneration, cataract and so on.

1. Electro-optical ophthalmia: long-term exposure of welders to electric arc light, including a large number of ultraviolet rays, will burn the cornea, so that the corneal epithelium detachment, resulting in electro-optical ophthalmia; may appear vision loss, blurred vision, eye redness and eye pain, photophobia and tearing and other symptoms.

2. Macular degeneration: long-term gaze at bright light will cause a lot of ultraviolet and infrared rays to enter the eye, resulting in retinal burns; macular area is the most sensitive part of the visual function, which can lead to macular degeneration, macular edema, seriously affecting vision.

3. Cataract: the radiation of electric arc light has the possibility of clouding the lens of the eye; in addition to ultraviolet light, infrared light and visible light, which contains the main wavelengths that produce cataract.

Welders who are blind should seek immediate medical attention to find the cause and actively treat the condition.
