In case of trigeminal nerve pain after wisdom tooth extraction, anti-inflammatory treatment can be given in the near future to check for the presence of dry socket. If dry socket is present, there is a bad taste in the mouth and clots are shed, the socket needs to be scratched and medicated, usually with iodoform gauze, and anti-inflammatory treatment can be given intravenously. Cephalosporin plus Ornidazole or Etimicin Sulfate is routinely used and usually returns to normal within a week or so. If the pain is severe, drugs such as carbamazepine and phenytoin sodium can be used, and radiofrequency therapy is also an option.
