What is albumin paclitaxel?

Albumin paclitaxel is an albumin-bound paclitaxel used for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer that has failed combination chemotherapy, or breast cancer that has recurred within 6 months of adjuvant chemotherapy. Albumin paclitaxel is a new type of paclitaxel, an albumin-bound paclitaxel, which is more stable, more effective, has fewer adverse effects, and fewer allergic reactions than other types of paclitaxel. Albumin paclitaxel can be used to treat metastatic breast cancer that has failed combination chemotherapy, or breast cancer that has recurred within 6 months of adjuvant chemotherapy. Common adverse reactions following the use of albumin paclitaxel include myelosuppression, such as neutropenia, and allergic reactions, such as dyspnea, skin flushing, hypotension, chest pain, and arrhythmia. The drug is contraindicated in patients with peripheral blood neutrophil counts below 1500/mm³ prior to treatment, and in patients who are allergic to paclitaxel or human albumin. If the use of albumin paclitaxel is required, please under the supervision of a physician.
