Leukemia white blood cells are high or low

Most of the leukemia white blood cell counts show elevated, but some leukemia patients may also be reduced, and the number of white blood cells varies depending on the specific condition. 1. Leukemia is a malignant proliferative disease of bone marrow hematopoietic cells, in which there will be a large number of primitive cells, naïve cells, etc. A large number of proliferating abnormal cells will be released into the bloodstream, which will cause the white blood cell counts to be elevated and categorized abnormally, but the function will be decreased, which will easily cause infections. 2. However, some leukemias show a lower white blood cell count when the abnormal proliferating primitive cells in the bone marrow have not been released into the peripheral blood, and at the same time the normal hematopoietic function is blocked, resulting in the formation of fewer mature white blood cells, leading to a decrease in the white blood cell count in the blood. Therefore, the occurrence of leukemia cannot be judged directly on the basis of peripheral blood leukocyte count. When leukemia is suspected, a bone marrow aspiration can be performed under the supervision of a doctor to clarify the situation.
