A low percentage of monocytes refers to a decrease in the proportion of monocytes in a patient’s blood as a percentage of leukocytes, which may indicate a low level of immunity in the body, but may also not have any clinical significance.
Monocytes are a type of leukocytes in the blood, which can phagocytose and remove injured and senescent cells as well as have an immune function to defend against intracellular pathogenic bacterial and parasitic infections, as well as the ability to recognize and kill tumor cells. Therefore, when the percentage of monocytes is low, it means that the body’s ability to defend itself against pathogens will be reduced, which may indicate that the body’s immunity is low.
However, since monocytes only account for 3% to 8% of human blood, the content itself is very small. Therefore, a low level of monocytes may not have any clinical significance.
Specific diagnosis should be made under the guidance of a physician.
