The TAT skin test is a tetanus antitoxin skin test, and the criteria for a positive skin test result are: the presence of a significantly enlarged mound at the site of the skin test, the occurrence of significant redness and swelling of the mound or the infiltration of the mound into the surrounding tissues, the patient’s feeling of significant itching, and the presence of a caudal foot around the mound, all of which are signs of a positive tetanus antitoxin skin test. Tetanus antitoxin can effectively prevent tetanus bacillus infection and can also be used for treatment after tetanus bacillus infection. If the tetanus antitoxin skin test is positive, desensitization therapy is possible. However, some patients will have hives, frequent sneezing, itching of the nasal mucosa or throat during the skin test, and other symptoms, which will be a strong positive reaction, in which case desensitization testing cannot be performed and can only be avoided.
