Can a herniated lumbar disc recover on its own?

A herniated lumbar disc can recover on its own. If the herniated nucleus pulposus is not too serious, it can recover on its own after absolute bed rest, lying on a hard bed and adopting a correct lifestyle. The herniated nucleus pulposus is found to have completely disappeared through MRI examination after avoiding activities that increase the pressure on the lumbar area such as bending and heavy physical labor. At a later stage, the strength of the lumbar back muscles will be strengthened through exercises such as 5-point support and small swallow flight to enhance the stability of the lumbar spine, reduce recurrence and achieve the purpose of self-healing. Most of the herniated lumbar discs cannot recover on their own and need to be treated by lumbar traction, massage, acupuncture and medication to reduce local edema and relieve lumbar pain as well as lower limb pain to achieve clinical cure, and the herniated lumbar discs are difficult to be completely retracted.
