What’s wrong with the rough, dark skin on the joints of your toes?

Rough and black skin at the toe joints may be caused by hyperpigmentation, or it may be the manifestation of acanthosis nigricans, diabetic foot and other diseases.
1. Hyperpigmentation: If the shoes and socks you wear are not suitable, it will cause friction to the toe joints, and the long-term friction can make the local skin rough and cause hyperpigmentation, which will be manifested as rough and black skin at the toe joints.
2. Acanthosis nigricans: this disease is mainly characterized by excessive skin pigmentation and velvety thickening. The skin color of the affected area deepens to light gray, light brown or dark brown, dry, rough and hypertrophic.
3. Diabetic foot: If the patient originally has diabetes, it may be complicated by diabetic foot, and the patient may have symptoms such as decreased skin temperature of the lower limbs, darkened skin color, dry and rough skin.
If the rough and black skin at the toe joints cannot be improved for a long time after choosing suitable shoes and socks, or is accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, it is recommended to go to the hospital for medical consultation to clarify the cause of the disease, and then follow the doctor’s instructions to carry out the relevant treatment.
