Malt is often used in conjunction with Liuxinqu, Shanzha, and Jianneijin to treat stagnation of potato, taro, rice and flour diets, and distension of the epigastrium (abdomen). Malt is a medicinal substance, as a traditional Chinese medicine, it is sweet and flat in nature, belonging to the spleen and stomach meridians, and has the effect of appetizing and strengthening the spleen, eliminating food and moving qi, restoring breast milk and eliminating flatulence. It is used for treating food accumulation without elimination, distension and pain in the stomach and abdomen, deficiency of the spleen with little food, accumulation of milk, breast distension and pain, weaning of women, liver depression and dystocia (pain in the area of dystocia and ribs), and gas pain in the liver and stomach. It is often used together with Liushenqu, Shanzha, and Jianneijin to treat stagnant potato, taro, rice, and flour diets and epigastric distension, and with Chenpi and Atractylodes macrocephala for treating spleen deficiency and underfeeding; and with Chaihu, Neem, and Xiangshu for treating liver-stomach qi pain and liver-depression and dystocia, and for treating liver-stomach disharmony or liver qi stagnation and epigastric, dystocia and rib pain. Raw malt strengthens the spleen and harmonizes the stomach, dredges the liver and promotes circulation of Qi. It is used for spleen deficiency with little food and milk stagnation. Stir-fried malt to promote Qi circulation, eliminate food and restore breast milk. It is used for women with food stagnation and weaning off breast milk. Jiao Mai Shao (焦麦芽) is used for eliminating food stagnation and resolving stagnation. Used in treating food accumulation that does not go away, with distension and pain in the epigastrium. This product should not be used for lactating women, adverse effects are not known. It is recommended to use under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner, unauthorized use of medication may cause adverse effects.
