Belching can be regulated by dietary adjustments and taking medications for evidence-based treatment.
According to Chinese medicine, belching is mostly caused by weakness of the spleen and stomach, disharmony of stomach qi, or entrapment of qi, food, phlegm, or fire, which makes the stomach qi upwardly rebellious (stomach qi rises instead of descending). Treatment is based on harmonizing the stomach and lowering its rebelliousness (harmonizing the stomach qi to make the upwardly rebellious qi descend).
1. Dietary adjustments: belching mostly occurs after a full meal, so patients should eat light and easy-to-digest foods, avoiding spicy and greasy foods.
2. Drugs for differentiation: For stomach deficiency, use Rotary Ochre Decoction; for spleen and kidney deficiency and coldness, use Li-Yin Decoction; for stomach deficiency and qi stagnation, use Ten-flavored Boho Decoction; for stomach with persistent food, use Quzhu Pill and Boho Pill; for stomach cold and dietary difficulties, use Nourishing Medium Decoction or Li-Zhong Pill; for stomach deficiency and phlegm, use Wo-Stomach and Two-Chen Decoction; for stomach phlegm and fire, use Singing Xia and Gardenia Decoction.
If there is any related condition, it is recommended to be treated under the guidance of a professional physician, and not to blindly self-medication.
