Genital herpes in men is originally mostly related to the invasion of HSV into the body. HSV (herpes simplex virus) is categorized into HSV-2 and HSV-1. Genital herpes is mainly associated with HSV-2 infection, which is contracted mainly through sexual contact. HSV-1 is prone to cause oral and labial herpes, and the virus may also be transmitted to the genitals through the oral cavity if oral-genital sexual intercourse is practiced, leading to the development of genital herpes in boys. In addition, if the mother is infected with HSV, it may be transmitted to the fetus through the uterus and to the newborn through the birth canal during delivery. Some male patients may have genital herpes because their mothers carry HSV. Male patients suffering from genital herpes are advised to consult a doctor at a regular hospital about the matter.
