To fixate or not to fixate the inner ankle

Internal ankle fixation refers to the internal fixation of ankle fracture within the ankle joint, which is generally recommended to be removed, especially when there are special circumstances such as bone nonunion and infection. Currently, most of the materials used for internal ankle fixation are titanium alloy or stainless steel, which are safe and harmless to human body. However, in order to avoid rejection, the internal fixation is usually removed after the fracture has healed. If the internal fixation position is not properly placed, which causes the patient to develop bone dislocation, infection and other special conditions, it should be taken out and further treated according to the condition of the patient. If there is any discomfort in the affected area after the fixation, it is recommended to consult a doctor to find out the cause of the problem to avoid serious consequences. Removal of internal ankle fixation also involves surgical risks such as infection and nerve damage, so patients are advised to go to regular hospitals for surgery.
