Is bone tuberculosis contagious?

Bone tuberculosis is the most common form of secondary extrapulmonary tuberculosis and is not contagious as long as the patient’s tuberculosis is properly controlled. Bone tuberculosis mainly affects the medial or articular bones, which are heavily loaded, highly mobile, and easily strained. Bone tuberculosis is not contagious because there is no vector for transmission of bone tuberculosis. Bone tuberculosis is a chronic disease, and often some patients will have pulmonary tuberculosis elsewhere, which can be difficult to cure quickly once it occurs. In general, there are two conventional treatments for bone TB: 1. non-surgical treatment, i.e. rest and immobilization, use of anti-tuberculosis drugs, along with increased nutrition and supportive therapy. 2. the opposite surgical treatment, i.e. resection, such as lesion removal and joint fusion, along with anti-tuberculosis drugs.
