Infant’s milk flowing from the nose may be caused by physiological factors such as incorrect breastfeeding posture, infants drinking milk too fast, or it may be caused by diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux, congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, and so on.
1. Physiological factors: Since the baby’s stomach is horizontal, when the mother’s breastfeeding posture is incorrect, it is easier for the milk to reflux from the throat into the nasal cavity, causing the baby to flow milk from the nose. In addition, if the baby eats too fast, the milk is also more likely to flow back into the nasal cavity, causing the baby’s nose to run.
2. Gastroesophageal reflux: Gastroesophageal reflux is caused by the immaturity of the lower esophageal sphincter, the destruction of the barrier function of the esophageal mucosa, and the low gastric emptying ability. The main manifestations of patients are vomiting and acid reflux. If infants have GERD, it will be manifested as milk flowing from the nose when they are fed.
3. Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis: the main symptom is vomiting, and there is foraging reaction after vomiting. When infants suffer from congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, the symptoms of milk flowing from the nose will appear.
There may also be other reasons for infants to have milk coming out of their nose, so it is recommended that they go to the hospital in time for a complete examination to determine the cause of the problem, and then give targeted treatment or therapy under the guidance of the doctor.
