Proprietary Chinese Medicines for Spleen Deficiency and Dampness

Commonly used Chinese medicines for treating spleen deficiency and dampness include Liu Jun Zi Pill and Xiang Sha Ping Stomach Pill, etc., but they should be used under the guidance of physician’s diagnosis. Liu Jun Zi Pill has the effects of tonifying the spleen and benefiting qi, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and resolving phlegm), and is used for treating weak spleen and stomach that result in poor food intake, weak qi and phlegm, and abdominal distension and loose stools (thin and unshaped feces). Pregnant women should not take this product; this product is not suitable for those with deficiency of Yin in the spleen and stomach, which is mainly manifested as dry mouth, red tongue with little fluid, and dry stools. The adverse reactions of this product are not clear. Xiangsha Pingstomach Pill has the effect of strengthening the spleen and drying dampness, and is commonly used in the treatment of gastric distension and pain. This product should be used with caution in patients with deficiency of spleen and stomach yin, which is manifested as loss of appetite, dry mouth and tongue, and heat in the hands, feet and heart. The adverse reactions and contraindications of this product are not clear. After the occurrence of discomfort should promptly seek medical attention, under the guidance of physician’s identification and selection of medication, do not self-medication, in order to avoid delaying the condition.
