How to reduce the swelling of the hand

A swollen hand can be caused by a localized soft tissue injury, or it can be caused by a fracture. The ways to reduce swelling include physical therapy, medication and surgery.
1. Soft tissue injury: The most common cause of local soft tissue congestion and edema after a hand bump. Patients first need to brake the affected limbs and use cool towels or ice bags to apply ice packs to the affected area for about 15-20 minutes several times a day while elevating the affected limbs; after 72 hours, it can be changed to hot packs while cooperating with infrared rays, magnetic heat therapy and other treatments to promote the repair of trauma.
2. Fracture: A serious knock on the hand may lead to fracture with localized swelling. Patients need imaging examination to clarify the degree of fracture damage, patients with better alignment of fracture line can be fixed with plaster or brace; patients with poor alignment of fracture line or comminuted fracture need to undergo surgical treatment of incision and internal fixation; also can be static mannitol, sodium heptapartite saponin and other medicines to reduce the swelling.
If the patient’s symptoms are serious, or the symptoms do not improve, should go to the hospital in time for treatment. All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
