The treatments for ulcerative colitis include basic treatment, medication and surgery.
1. Basic treatment: Intravenous nutrition can be used if there is malnutrition and the condition is serious. Give easily digestible and nutritious diet. Use probiotics to regulate intestinal flora (e.g. Lactobacillus acidophilus tablets, Saccharomyces boulardii, etc.). Abdominal pain or more diarrhea can be appropriate with antidiarrheal drugs (such as montelukast) and antispasmodic drugs (such as scopolamine) and so on.
2.Drug treatment.
(1) Amino-salicylic acid preparations: they are the basic drugs for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, including mesalazine and salazosulfapyridine. Mesalazine may cause mild stomach upset, occasional nausea, headache, dizziness, etc.
(2) Glucocorticoids: Oral prednisone and IV methylprednisolone are commonly used. Usually used as a short-term shock treatment for ulcerative colitis.
(3) Immunosuppressants: Used in patients with ulcerative colitis who have poor efficacy of 5-aminosalicylic acid in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, ineffective hormone therapy or hormone dependence. Drugs such as azathioprine and mercaptopurine. May cause liver function damage, so it is contraindicated in people with poor liver function.
3. Surgery: Ulcerative colitis generally does not require surgery, if combined with intestinal obstruction, intestinal perforation and colon cancer and other conditions, feasible intestinal resection anastomosis, enterostomy.
Specific treatment programs need to go to the regular hospital in a timely manner, all drugs should follow the doctor’s instructions, in order to better treat the disease.
