There is no research to show that the various so-called folk remedies are effective in treating varicose veins and hence are not recommended. Varicose veins of the lower limbs are common in people who stand for a long time and work hard. They are caused by incomplete closure of the valves of the veins, which leads to backflow of blood in the veins, and ultimately causes dilatation of the vein walls and distortion. Treatment mainly includes conservative treatment, sclerotherapy and surgery. Currently, there are no studies showing the effectiveness of folk remedies in treating varicose veins and they are not recommended. Conservative treatment includes compression therapy and medication, the former refers to wearing compression stockings or using compression bandages; medication can be chosen from flavonoids and hepatic saponins. Sclerotherapy involves selecting a suitable sclerosing agent and injecting it to close the blood vessel for treatment purposes. Surgery includes vein ligation, varicose vein stripping and laser and electrocoagulation. Varicose veins of the lower limbs need to be treated in regular hospitals and in accordance with the doctor’s instructions. Do not listen to the so-called prescription, so as to avoid accidents.
