How do I choose the type of surgery for my thyroid?

The incidence of thyroid disorders has increased significantly in recent years and has become the most common disease in head and neck surgery. Most thyroid disorders require surgical treatment. Traditional surgery leaves a visible surgical scar in the neck, while the application of lumpectomy technology has changed the original surgical incision in the neck to three small holes in a hidden part of the chest, achieving excellent cosmetic results. However, we do not routinely recommend lumpectomy thyroid surgery to our patients, as it is not suitable for all patients and only offers a new option when the condition allows and the patient has cosmetic needs. The average patient does not need to have this type of surgery as a routine, because in fact the conventional incision is the most straightforward and requires the least amount of separation of the incision. In addition, the use of cosmetic sutures has been able to reduce the surgical scar to a very small degree, so we routinely still use a cervical incision for thyroid surgery. Currently, we are using ultrasonic knife, a new surgical tool, for both conventional incision and lumpectomy, which plays a very important role in reducing surgical trauma, reducing surgical bleeding and improving surgical safety. The application of ultrasonic knife can greatly shorten the operation time, the whole operation may not see any bleeding, the operation wound does not have a stitch that needs to be tied, the patient recovers more quickly after the operation, and the hospital stay is also shortened. We believe that with the continuous advancement of technology, medical workers will keep pace with the times and develop innovations to provide better services to more patients.
