Chronic superficial gastritis belongs to the category of “stomach pain” in traditional Chinese medicine, which can be treated with Liang Fu Wan, Hwa Liver Decoction, Bao He Wan, Chai Hu Shuo Liver Essence, Consistent Decoction, etc. Please follow the doctor’s instruction for specific medication.
1. Liang Fu Pill: composed of galangal and Xiang Fu, it is used to treat the syndrome of cold in the stomach, manifesting as cold pain in the stomach and epigastric region, refusing to be pressed, pale tongue, thin white coating and tight pulse.
2. Huanhe Decoction: composed of Qingpi, Chenpi, Bai Shao, etc. It is used for treating the syndrome of heat in the liver and stomach, manifesting as burning pain in the stomach and epigastric region, dryness in the mouth, bitterness in the mouth, redness of the tongue, yellowish of the coating, and counting of the pulse.
3. Baohe Pill: It is composed of hawthorn, Shenqu, half-summer and so on, treating the evidence of accumulation and stagnation of food, manifesting as distension of epigastrium (stomach and abdomen), belching and swallowing of acid (burping with foul taste and acidic water in the mouth), and thick coating of the tongue, etc. Its adverse reactions and contraindications are still unclear, so note that it is advisable to have a light diet, avoiding alcohol, spicy, cold and greasy food, and it is not advisable to take nourishing traditional Chinese medicines during the period of taking the medication.
4. Chaihu Liver-Sparing Essence: composed of Chaihu, Paeonia lactiflora and Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, it is used for the symptoms of liver-qi offending the stomach, which manifests as stomach pain, good taiyi, pale red tongue, thin white coating and stringy pulse.
5. Consistent Decoction: composed of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, etc. It is used for treating gastric yin insufficiency (deficiency of yin fluid in the stomach) manifesting as gastric noises (stomach feeling similar to hunger, emptiness with burning), red tongue, scanty moss, thin and countless pulse (narrowing of the pulse to become thinner and quicker in speed), etc. If there is any discomfort, it is necessary to take this medicine.
