What is cancer staging

Cancer staging is a way of expressing the development of tumor according to a certain standard, and there are differences in the staging of different tumors. Cervical cancer is commonly used in FIGO staging standard of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, breast cancer, gastric cancer and so on, are commonly used in TNM staging, and liver cancer is commonly used in CNLC, a Chinese staging scheme for liver cancer.

1. TNM staging

(1) Breast cancer: It is divided into stages 0 to IV, with 9 subtypes. Staging criteria include primary tumor infiltration, regional lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis.

(2) Gastric cancer: divided into stages I-IV and 6 subtypes. Staging criteria include primary tumor infiltration, regional lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis.

2. Chinese staging scheme for liver cancer CNLC: It is divided into stages Ⅰ ~ Ⅳ, with 7 subtypes. Staging criteria include physical activity status, Child-Pugh classification of liver function, maximum diameter of tumor, number of tumors, vascular thrombus and extrahepatic metastasis.

3. FIGO staging of cervical cancer: divided into stages I-IV with 14 subtypes. Staging criteria include maximum infiltration depth of the tumor, maximum diameter of the tumor, invasion of surrounding tissues, lymph node metastasis, and distant dissemination of the tumor.

Staging can be used to guide the choice of treatment and determine the prognosis. Regardless of which stage the tumor is in, one should actively go to the hospital for professional treatment.
