What’s wrong with constipation and diarrhea?

Constipation and diarrhea occurring together is a change in stool pattern and is usually seen in some digestive tract disorders, and the cause needs to be identified based on the accompanying symptoms and laboratory tests.

The alternation of constipation and diarrhea is usually seen with intestinal tuberculosis. In addition to alternating constipation and diarrhea, patients with intestinal tuberculosis may also have symptoms of tuberculosis toxicity, such as low fever in the afternoon and night sweats.

The alternation of constipation and diarrhea is also seen in patients with colon cancer. Patients with colon cancer may experience irregular contraction and diastole of the smooth muscles of the intestine due to tumor irritation of the intestine, leading to symptoms, along with abdominal pain and anemia.

It can also be seen in patients with intestinal obstruction, where there is chronic inflammatory irritation of the intestine at the site of obstruction due to incomplete blockage of the intestinal lumen, causing symptoms, usually accompanied by blood in the stool.

Constipation alternating with diarrhea can also be caused by a poor diet, such as the intake of raw and cold foods and an irregular diet, which can cause irregular bowel movements and lead to symptoms.

For patients who have constipation and diarrhea at the same time, the appropriate treatment plan needs to be chosen to relieve the symptoms according to the different diseases.
