Can vision be restored after vitrectomy surgery?

The recovery of vision after vitrectomy surgery depends mainly on the fundus condition. Some fundus pathologies can restore vision after surgery, such as retinal detachment detected early, simple vitreous hemosiderosis, vitreous clouding caused by retinal vein obstruction, vitreous macular traction syndrome, macular anterior membrane, macular fissure and other eye diseases. In some diseases, vitrectomy is performed only to prevent eye atrophy, and vision recovery is very difficult, such as severe eye trauma, severe age-related macular degeneration, complex and long-lasting old retinal detachment and other diseases. Therefore, whether vision can be restored after vitrectomy cannot be generalized and should be determined according to the condition of the fundus lesion.
