When pneumonia occurs, the vast majority of pneumonia lesions can be seen on a radiograph. Chest radiographs in patients with pneumonia usually show increased and thickened lung texture and sometimes speckled or patchy shadows. In lobar pneumonia, the lesion may involve a solid lobe of the lung, and in lobar pneumonia, it usually involves both lungs. In addition to imaging, the diagnosis of pneumonia needs to be further confirmed by the patient’s clinical presentation, chest signs, and laboratory tests. Clinical manifestations usually include cough, sputum, fever, chest tightness, chest pain, and dyspnea. Physical examination may reveal coarse breath sounds in both lungs and dry rales may be heard. Laboratory tests may include routine blood tests, sputum culture, and a complete set of viral tests.
