Cold legs and feet can be caused by a variety of pathologies. Depending on the cause combined with other symptoms, you can go to vascular surgery, spine or Chinese medicine for diagnosis and treatment.
1. Vascular Surgery: If the patient’s lower limb arterial lumen is narrowed or even occluded due to embolism, atherosclerosis, etc., the part of the diseased vascular supply area will become cold due to the lack of blood supply, and become cyanotic in color, which may lead to necrosis of local tissues in severe cases.
2. Spine: If the patient’s lower limb nerves are compressed due to vertebral osteophytes, herniated lumbar discs or spinal stenosis, it will lead to abnormal sensation in the area innervated by the compressed nerves of the patient, with cold and numb sensation, and even pain or movement disorders may occur.
3. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): Cold legs and feet can be seen in patients with yang deficiency, especially kidney yang deficiency, insufficient cold in the body, liver depression and stagnation of qi (poor qi and blood transportation in the liver, emotional depression), or qi and blood deficiency.
