Protruding ribs in front of the chest

When a rib protrudes from the chest, the first thing to look for is whether it is a single rib or multiple ribs that are protruding. In the case of a single rib protrusion, it is usually associated with injury to the rib cartilage or a deformity resulting from strain. The normal human rib cartilage and the fibrocartilage on the outside of the rib cartilage can be deformed locally due to long-term habitual movements. The deformation of the cartilage does not usually return to its original state, resulting in a bulge in a single rib. However, there are usually no specific painful symptoms or localized soreness and swelling after exertion, while in the case of multiple protruding ribs on the front of the chest. If multiple ribs protrude from the front of the chest, you should consider whether the rib protrusion is due to scoliosis. Scoliosis pushes several ribs out of the chest contour, causing a significant protrusion of the rib cage. Therefore, a radiograph or CT of the chest, ribs, and thoracic spine should be examined promptly to confirm the diagnosis of the disease.
